The line charts illustrate the proportions of different age groups among U.S. residents who used the internet during two different periods: 2010 and 2017.
Overall, it is evident that the 16-24 age group had the highest percentage of internet users, while the oldest age groups showed the lowest percentages in both years.
In 2010, the majority of individuals aged 16-34 used the internet, with a percentage of around 69%. Meanwhile, the percentage of internet usage among three older age groups—those aged 35-44, 45-54, and 55-64—experienced a significant decline. The proportion of internet usage started at approximately 90% for people aged 35-44 and fell to roughly 70% for those in the older age categories. Additionally, around 60% of residents aged 55-64 were internet users, and only 40% of people over 65 used the internet.
In 2017, a similar trend was observed. Approximately 90% of the youngest U.S. population continued to use the internet, while only 15% of individuals over 65 did so. The percentage of internet usage among other age groups also declined as age increased.
