The bar chart shows the number of British people who emigrated to five countries between 2004 and 2007. These destinations were Australia, Spain, New Zealand, the USA, and France.
Overall, Australia was by far the most popular choice for British emigrants, while New Zealand and the USA attracted the fewest people. Spain was also a common destination at the beginning of the period, but France became more popular in the final year.
In 2004, about 40,000 people moved to Australia, and this figure increased to a peak of just over 50,000 in 2006 before dropping slightly in 2007. Spain started at around 35,000 emigrants in 2004 but declined gradually to less than 30,000 by the end of the period.
Emigration to New Zealand and the USA remained stable, at roughly 20,000 to 23,000 people each year. France, however, showed a different trend: it began with about 22,000 emigrants in 2004, then fell slightly before rising sharply to over 30,000 in 2007, becoming the second most popular destination.
