The bar provides data about the population of the different separate three metropolises: Jakarta, Shanghai and Sao Paulo in 1990, as well as the expected and real population statistics in 2000. Overall, it is evident that Sao Paulo held the highest figures of population across the period shown, while the opposite was true for Jakarta. In addition, in all three cities, there were notable discrepancies between the actual and projected figures in 2000.
As can be seen from the chart, the population in Sao Paulo held its top position with around 17 million, compared to two remaining examined cities. This figure was anticipated to reach 22 million by 2000, but the actual population was around 2 million higher. A similar but more dramatic pattern was in Jakarta which had a population of about 7 million in 1990 before rising to approximately 14 million 10 years later. This statistic surpassed the projected one 11 million.
In terms of Shanghai, the population here reached around 13 million in 1990. However, this figure showed the reserve of the expectation which was predicted to decrease to 11 million instead of soaring to 15 million in 2000.
