The numbers of shops that closed and new shops that opened each year from 2011 until 2018 is presented in this line graph. Overall more shops were shut down until the end of the period rather than newly opened shops except in 2011 and 2015.
As referred to the number of closures, the trend decreases throughout the years. A fluctuation between 6000 to around 7000 was seen in the first 3 years. Then it dropped seriously in 2015, with only around 500 left. A dramatic increase happened in 2016, where it gained almost 10 times, which was 5,000 and leveled off until the end of the period.
Turning on to the amount of stores that opened, more stores were opened in 2011 rather than the one that closed. However shortly after, it dropped to 4000 in 2012. Steady incline for the next 2 years was shown until reaching above 6000. Slightly dropping back to 4000 in 2015, which still remained higher than closures, the figure stayed static until 2017 then fell again to 3000 at the end of the recorded years.
