Overall, the figure of people born in Australia and lived in towns and rural areas showed a gradual fall, while people born in Australia and lived in cities increased noticeably. Meanwhile, people born outside of Australia and lived in cities experienced a noticeable increase. The percentage for people lived in towns remained the same, whereas rural areas’ proportion decreased rapidly.
Turning to the numbers, the proportion of people born in Australia and lived in cities rose from about 50 in 1950 percent to 65 percent by 2010. In contrast, towns and rural areas’ proportion declined from 20% and 30% to about 15 percent. Citizens born outside of Australia and lived in cities inclined slightly from 60% to 80%. Although rural areas’ proportion was high in 1950, the figure for rural areas decreased exponentially, from 40% to 5%. Towns’ proportion remained almost the same in both years around 15%.
