The line graph illustrates the proportion of unemployment in the urban and rural areas of Australia in 2012. Overall, the fraction of people without a job in villages had decreased at the end of the period compared to the start of the period, whereas it has increased in the cities.

To begin with, in rural areas, the rate of unemployment was close to 7% at the start of the 1st quarter. It gradually decreased to under 5% at the end of half the year, following which it steadily rose again to 5.5% close to the end of the third quarter. In the last 3 months of the year, it fluctuated mildly to 5% at the finish of the year.

However, in cities, only 2.1% of the Australian citizens were without work at the beginning of the period. It steeply grew to peak at 4% after 6 months. After this, the unemployment fell by almost 2% at the close of 3rd quarter . It surged to approximately 5% at the end of the period.
