Overall, the number of cinema admissions increased significantly over the period. The most screened films were US films in both countries. British films were also popular in UK, while Australians weren’t interested in Australian movies.
The number of UK visitors who were attended to the cinema was 122 million people, while the Australian visitors were only about 25 million people at the beginning. After that, UK admission to the cinema experienced a sharp decline to approximately 59 million viewers by 1985, whereas Australia attendance showed minor fluctuations . As films became more popular, the average attendance of UK and Australia increased and peaked at around 160 million and 70 million people respectively from 1990 and 2005.
In 2005, the most watched films were US films, which made up nearly 80% in UK and 70% in Australia. In United Kingdom, UK films accounted for 20%, noticeably lower than the percentage of US films. In addition, the Australian films and others were shown much less frequently than those of films.
