At first glance, travelling is the most common reason for people to learn an extra language. In addition, a large proportion of language learners opt for studying on their own.
Regarding reasons why an additional language is learned, people who pursue a new language for travelling accounts for 30%, followed by that of socialization on social media, at around 20%. Moreover, almost 15% of the population learn one more language due to the desire to improve their communication. Additionally, the percentage of new language learners exploring different cultures is superior to that of expanding social circle, making up 13% compared to 11%. By contrast, a minority of individuals prefer to learn a new language to have an additional life skill, comprising nearly 10%.
In terms of some favourite methods of learning a new language, 45% of surveyed learners say that they opt to use self-access resources. Furthermore, 30% of learners select to take a formal learning program which is 5% higher than the figure for living or studying abroad.
