Emigration rate was at roughly 14 million in 1979 and rose substantially to a staggering 55 million people in 1999. Looking at the most widespread countries among UK citizens, France takes up the largest proportion at over 10 million visitors in 1999. Spain was on the second place with about 9 million people, followed by USA, which accounted for around 4 million. Finally, Greece and Turkey had the least number of British tourists, accounting for the less than 5 million, about 3 and 2 million respectively.
