The pie charts describe a breakdown of languages that students in a British university plan to study in 2006. Overall, it can be seen that the choice of language course varied by gender in both departments of economics and philosophy. In addition, whereas most students in the economics department planned to take the Spanisn class, women and men students in the philosophy department tended to prefer different language cources.
To begin with, 43.6 % of men and 46.7 % of women in the economics department chose the Spanish class which accounted for nearly half of each total proportion. Subsequently, 24.2% of men in the econimics department selected the Chinese cource, the second most popular one. In contrast, Chinease was less popular among women. Rather than Chinese, the French cource was more popular, 16.2 % of women chose it. Also, most women and men did not plan to take Japanease, which were 6.6 % and 1.9%, respectively.
In terms of the department of philosophy, the German course was the most popular among students. However, another popular language was defferent depending on gender. 24.2% of men planned to take the greek cource, while 30.2 % of women chose the Italian cource. The similar percentage of wome and men was seen in the French cource, which showed 12.2 % and 12.9 %, respectively.
