The charts illustrate the electricity produced using renewable and non renewable energy resources in United States over 10-year period.Overall,we can observe that there is increase in the amount of energy produced from renewables and natural gas as compared to petroleum, nuclear and coal resources.
The most significant change is in the energy produced using coal as it drastically decreased from 1756 billion kw/hours to 966 billion kw/hours on the other hand natural gas rose from 921 billion kw/hours to 1582 kw/hours during this period. However, the use of petroleum and nuclear sources does not have much change in producing electricity over this period. Another thing to notice is petroleum is the least used source for generating electricity as it only generates 40 billion kw/hours in contrast to Natural gas which is the most used source and surpassed coal as the primary source in 2019.
In renewable sources, there is dramatically increase in use of wind and solar sources as primary sources as wind climbed from 94 billion kw/hours to 300 billion kw/hours ,and solar rose by over 72 billion kw/hour during this period. Hydroelectric sources remain stable sources as they haven’t changed from 273 billion kw/hours from 2009.Geothermal and plant sources have very slight increase in production in this period.
