The chart below provides information on the renewable and non-renewable resources used for electricity generation in the United States in the years 2009 and 2019.
Overall, electricity generation from non-renewable energy sources was significantly higher than that from renewable sources. As illustrated in the first chart, nuclear, natural gas, and coal played a dominant role in production. In contrast, renewable energy sources, along with nuclear, had moderate levels of production, while petroleum contributed the least.
Focusing on renewable energy sources, there was a notable increase in electricity generation from solar and wind energy between 2009 and 2019. However, the other three sources – geothermal, biomass, and hydroelectric – experienced only slight increases.
It’s important to note that the production of electricity from renewable energy sources did not decline for any of the categories. Instead, it either maintained similar levels or saw an increase.
