Overall, it was action film genre that was the most prevalent in both given years, though in 2000 romance genre followed a similar pattern, being the second category that topped the list. In contrast, sci-fi was the only type to witness considerably lower shares in both given timeframes. Notably, while action film indicated the most pronounced growth, romance experienced the opposite, registering a dramatic plunge.
Regarding the first dataset, the genres like action and romance attracted most of the viewers. Both of them constituted very identical shares of roughly 30%. Meanwhile, comedy closely followed these two segments, indicating 25%, which was almost a double figure for drama (10%). The remaining category-sci-fi- was an outlier of the chart, as it saw a mere 5%.
In terms of the second dataset, while action and drama exhibited an increase to varying degrees, comedy, sci-fi and romance saw drastic dips in their shares, with sci-fi having no or a minimal change in proportions. Action genre, which soared dramatically over a 10-year period, peaked at a whopping 57%, making up more than half of the total shares. A similar increase was observed in drama segment, which rose by 15%, reaching 25%, respectively. Conversely, comedy plummeted to nearly 5%, which was the familiar figure for sci-f, also indicating nearly 5%. Ultimately, romance, which used to attract a substantial number of views, plummeted by approximately 22%, ranking third in the chart.
