The bar charts illustrate the number of honey-bee colonies and the amount of honey produced in the Unit State from 1970 to 2010. Overall, the number of honey-bee colonies and their production fluctuated differently in the first 20 years of the period. However, both honey-bee colonies and honey produced witnessed a dramatic decrease over the last 20 years.
Beginning with 1970 to 1990, there was a significant contrast in trends between honey-bee colonies and honey production. While the number of honey-bee colonies started at 4 million and reached a peak in 1980 at approximately 4.25 million, the figure fell steadily to 3.5 million in 1990. In contrast, the amount of production from honey-bee saw a moderate dip of 20,000 tonnes in 1980, starting at 130.000 tonnes, before rising to 120.000 tonnes in 1990.
Finally, there was a decreasing trend in the number of honey-bee colonies and honey produced over the final forty-year period, both the figures were recorded to hit a low point in 2010, with around 1.8 million for the honey-bee and 70.000 for honey production in the US.
