The line charts below illustrate how ownership of electrical house tools and amount of time spent to do housework at homes changes in a certain country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, despite being used very little at the start of the period, application of these electrical devices experienced a major rise over the years. Progressively, these tools saved a lot of time for people, as time spent on housework drops significantly at the end of the period.
Although refrigerator almost have not been used at the start of the period, it witnessed a dramatic increase, and peaked at 100% in 1980 and remained stable until the end of the period. Compared with refrigerator, 30 % of the houses in this country have already been using vacuum cleaner in 1920. It also similarly, rocketed up to the 100% 20 years later, in 2000. In comparison, application of the washing machine was the highest at the start of the period at 40% and it is also increased over the period, but never reached 100%.
Initially, housework accounted for the half of population’s time, however the usage of these electrical devices helped to reduce it to around 10% in 2019.
