The charts illustrate the main causes why students select the same university in the UK, from 1997 to 2007.
Overall, at the beginning of the period suitable degree courses made the highest contribution on students choices, while proximity to parental home was the smallest segment. In comparison, at the end of the period the lowest contribution made by sports and social activities and suitable degree courses remained relatively stable.
First of all, quality of teaching made up 15% in 1997 and demonstrated a steady rise to 18% over the next ten-year period. At the beginning, proximity to parental home accounted for 10%, however, in 2007 it rise to almost quarter percentage. Additionally, degree courses accounted for the lion’s share of-largest portion among others and demonstrated slight improvement in 2007.
Consequently, sports and activities which comprised 19% to main reasons of choosing particular university in 1997, fell to 6% in 2007. Quality of resources ranked a second in terms of popularity at the beginning, but it demonstrates slight decrease to 17% in 2007.
