The given pie chart illustrates the main five different reasons why students choose a particular university in the United Kingdom between 1997 and 2007.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that a substantial growth was observed in the reasons for suitable degree courses, proximity to parental home, and quality of teaching, while quality of resources and good sports and social activities experienced the opposite pattern.
Looking at the details, suitable degree courses, at the outset of the period, accounted for a considerable share of main reasons of choosing a university (35%), which was almost two times higher than that of quality of teaching (15%). Nevertheless, both underwent a considerable rise in 2007, going up to 37% and 18%, respectively. Similarly, although proximity to parental home recorded the lowest ratio (10%), its percentage almost doubled in 2007 (22%).
Meanwhile, quality of resources, which ranked second, consisted of 21% at the beginning; however its proportion dropped to 17% at the end. Moreover, a drastic decrease from 19% in 1997 to 6% in 2007 was shown in the figure for good sports and social activities.
