The charts shown illustrate the death rate by age and gender in 1950, 1980, and 2010 in Africa.
Overall, there was a downward trend in the death rate throughout the years in both categories (age and gender). Older people were also consistently reported higher mortality rates than the younger counterparts, except for people aged between 0 to 20. It was also evident that males had higher mortality rates throughout the period.

In contrast, the there was no more than 10% of people aged between 21 to 30 year old who were reported to die throughout those three years in Africa.
On the other hand, the decrease in the death rate had been primarily driven by females with around 29% in 1950, 26% in 1980, and 23% in 2010. Meanwhile, males’ death rate stood at approximately 38%, 30%, and 24% respectively.
