The bar chart illustrates the number of tourists who travelled abroad from Japan, while the line graph demonstrates the proportion of the Japanese tourists’ market in Australia from 1985 to 1995. The units are given in millions and percentages.
Overall, it is clearly evident that although the number of Japanese tourists at the beginning of the period was small, it rose slightly year by year and their number reached the highest rate at the end of the period, while the percentage visiting Australia began at the smallest figure and it went up three times higher with some fluctuations over the decade.
If we look at the millions of Japanese tourists travelling abroad, it was just 5 million in 1985 and it steadily increased over five years and reached nearly 11 million. Thereafter, it decreased to about 10.5 million in 1991 and then also rhythmically rose until the end of the period, at 15 million.
In stark contrast, the level of Australia’s visitors was merely 2% at the beginning and it dramatically increased to about 5% after 4 years. However, it decreased by merely 0.5% in 1990. Moreover, it remarkably increased until 1994 and reached over 6%. Despite this, it also declined the next year; it was ended at 6%.
