The charts illustrate the number of citizens and rural inhabitants in Europe who were influenced by four genres of noise by day and night in 2007.
Overall, both groups of people experienced the same trend during the survey. The traffic noise affected the highest number of people in both groups, while the industry activities had a remarkably lower influence on people’s daily lives. It was also noticeable that night activities were less affected than those of the day
In terms of the cities, the traffic activities were recognised as the most uncomfortable noise, affecting 68 million and 48 million people during the day and night, respectively. After that, the train category received a significantly lower complaint rate, with the figures of 10 million and 8 million people during the day and night. Meanwhile, the figures for the aircraft and the industry were the lowest during the survey, standing at just 4 million and 1 million for aircraft, plus 1 million and 0.25 million for industry.
In terms of the rural areas, the same trend was also found in this table chart. The dominated category was also the traffic, with 35 million and 24 million. Followed by the train, the figures were incredibly low at just 14 million in total. Finally, the figures for aircraft were just 2 million and 1 million people, while there was no recognition in the industry activities, which means less attention was given to developing the industry economy.
Comparing two groups, the effect of daily activities from distinct categories in the cities was substantially greater than that of the rural areas.
