The bar chart illustrates the percentage of Australian men who were employed in three different years: 1984, 2001, and 2014, across various age groups.
Overall, employment rates were highest among prime working-age men and declined with age. Over time, there was a noticeable decrease in employment among younger and older groups, while middle-aged men remained relatively stable.
In 1984, employment levels were very high for men aged 25-54, with figures close to or above 90%. However, younger men aged 15-19 had a significantly lower employment rate, at around 60%. By 2001, employment among teenagers dropped considerably, and this downward trend continued in 2014, falling to below 50%.
A similar decline can be observed among older men. For those aged 55-64, employment decreased gradually over the three years. The most dramatic fall was seen in men aged 65 and over, where the percentage nearly halved from 1984 to 2001 before stabilizing slightly in 2014.
In contrast, men aged 25-44 and 45-54 maintained consistently high employment rates throughout the period.
