The bar chart illustrates the proportion of food and goods which were purchased in European supermarkets by the year of 1998 and 2008.
As can be seen from the chart, both food and food purchases in three countries experienced an upward trend. While Country 1 saw the most significant rise in two sections during the period, Country 2 nearly remained stable and the proportion of food in Country 3 only increased drastically in the goods section.
Regarding food sales, Country 1 had about 10% of individuals buying food in supermarkets in 1998, then increased sharply to 35% in 2008. A similar trend, though less noticeable, was observed in Country 2, where the food sales increased by an insignificant proportion to over 25%. Lastly, Country 3 also experienced a slight change around nearly one-tenth of individuals buying food.
A comparable pattern was recorded in the figure of goods purchases. The percentage of goods in Country 1 increased eight times from under 5% to nearly 40% in the following decade. Another similar increase also emerged in Country 3, which had a modest proportion of buyers, then experienced a significant increase by over three times to over 15%.
