The pie charts illustrate the preferences for different genres of books – science fiction books, biographies, novels, self-help books among readers at A&Z library aged 18-25 and 26-34 in 2009.
It is clear that self-help books were favored by both age groups whereas science fiction books were the least popular. Overall, the preference for self-help books declined significantly with age, while science fiction books and novels witnessed modest decline, giving way to a notable rise in the popularity of biographies.
Among readers ranging from 18 to 25 years old, self-help books stood out, accounting for more than half of the pie chart [58%]. At the same time, novels were favored by nearly quarter of young readers [23%]. It was obvious that only a minor of people who read at A&Z library showed an interest for biographies [10%], followed by science fiction books [9%] which was also the least popular.
In the same year, the distribution of certain types of books, choosing by readers from 26 to 34 years old had such a difference compared to the one choosing by younger readers. The most noticeable dissimilarity was the major preference for biographies which was approximately three times higher than that for younger readers [31%]. By contrast, self-help books accounted for 42%, being 16% lower than previous chart while novels and science fiction books showed minor difference – novels [20%], science fiction books [7%].
