The pie charts compare the proportions of learners enrolled in various courses – including art, fitness and dance, cookery, music appreciation, local history and modern languages at an adult education centre in1985 and in the present time.
Overall, it is evident that in 1985, modern languages were the most popular subject whereas music appreciation had the smallest share. However, in the present time, IT has dominated enrolments while music appreciation and local history are no longer among the offered courses.
In 1985, among the first three listed courses, foreign language accounted for the highest proportion at nearly a quarter, followed by art at 17%. Nevertheless, in this present time, both art and modern languages have declined, making up 15% and 17%, respectively. Additionally, the year 1985 witnessed that 15% of students in total chose local history, but no students have enrolled in this subject now.
Regarding other categories, fitness and dance attracted 22% of participants, a figure that has remained unchanged, making it the second most common subject throughout the period. Meanwhile, the proportion of students in cookery increased from 14% in 1985 to 19% at present. In contrast,. music appreciation accounted for 8% of participants in 1985 but has been no longer offered in the present. Notably, IT emerged in the present time and now dominates the ranking with 27% of students choosing it.
