The pie charts compare the percentage of time spent on different activities among adults in a particular nation from 1958 to 2008.
Overall, the amount of time spent on all surveyed activities witnessed an upward trend, with the exceptions of sleeping and going out. Furthermore, working and sleeping dominated the majority of adults’ time between 1958 to 2008.
In 1958, working had the highest amount of time of day among all activities (33%), which was marginally higher than sleeping, at 32%. Over the next fifty years, in comparison to sleeping, which displayed a downward trend (one-quarter), there was a rise of nearly 10% in working, reaching over 40%.
Starting from only 2% and 6%, the figures for commuting to work and other activities or playing sports were substantially less than those of working and sleeping, which experienced a negligible growth to the same level, at 8% correspondingly. In 2008, adults preferred relaxing at home to hanging out with friends and family, with 13% and 6% respectively.
