These are the three main categories that are highlighted in the charts: industrial use, agriculture use and domestic use. In all 6 charts, the lowest percentage of water consumption is for domestic use. In many areas, the main use of water is spent on agriculture, except for North America and Europe.
The percent of water use for agriculture in south America, Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia is above 70 percent. In North America and Europe, water use is more balanced. For example, the percent of water consumption for industrial purposes in North America is 48 percent, agriculture is 39 percent, domestic use is only 13 percent. Europe’s performance is not so different from North America. The percent of water consumption for industrial purposes is 53 percent, the percent of water use for economic culture is 32 percent, and domestic use expenditure is 15 percent
In contrast to North America and Europe, the percent of water use for industrial purposes is low. In the remaining 4 countries, industrial water consumption is not higher than 12 percent. The main percent of water consumption is spent on agricultural purposes. Central Asia has the highest rate, because this area consumes 88 percent of water for agricultural use. And South America has the lowest percent of agricultural water use, it has these figures up to 71 percent
