The chart illustrates the information about the proportion of employees who work in 3 sectors in 4 countries in 1980 and 2010. Overall, in both periods in 3 countries Industry was the main sector, whereas Agriculture was the least preferred. Conversely, in China Agriculture was the most common sector in both periods.
Looking at the details, in 1980 the Industry was the most common job in Germany with 60%, and in the USA and Japan with 50%. However, in China it was the least common job, whereas Agriculture was dominant with 70%. In other 3 countries Agriculture showed the least figures from 5% to 10%. Services were average sectors in all countries, in China and German 50% of workers chose these sectors, while in the USA and Japan it consisted 48% and 40% of workers.
Turning to 2010, in Germany, Japan and the USA industry remained the most common sector with increased figures to 80% in Germany and Japan and to 70% in the USA, however, in China this figure stayed unchanged. The agriculture saw a decrease in all countries, remaining the least common in 3 countries, but in China this sector kept the leading despite a decline to 50%. Similarly to 1980, services were average sectors in 3 countries, despite a decrease to 40% in Germany, 39% in the USA and 30% in Japan. However, in China this figure saw a significant fall to 20% and became the least preferred job among workers.
