The three pie charts compare the percentage of holidaymakers who used four different types of accommodation in 1998, 1998, and 2008.
Overall, staying with family was the most popular choice throughout the period, although its share declined. The striking change was the rise in rented apartments, which more than tripled in popularity over the period.
In 1988, staying with family stood at 52%, subsequently increasing to 54% in 1998 and slightly falling to 44% in 2008. In stark contrast, rented apartments began at 7% in 1988, followed by a sharp rise to 11% in 1998, and then the figure peaked at approximately 22% in 2008.
Regarding the other two accommodations, camping was recorded at about 26% in 1988, but it quickly declined to 13% in 1998 and finished at its lowest point of 12% in 2008. Similarly, hotel occupancy started out at 15% in 1988; it grew quite a bit, rising to 22% by 1998, and the figure was unchanged, staying at 22% in 2008.
