The illustrations compare the percentage of people expenditure’s on various goods and services in a country in Europe in 1958 and 2008.
In general, while housing, luxury goods, and food increased their proportions over the period, other categories lost their share.
In detail, the largest figures in 1958 were clothing, housing, and entertainment with 32%, 22%, and 18%, respectively. However, whereas housing significantly expanded its share to 32% in 2008, becoming the most dominant category, clothing showed a notable decrease to 12%. In addition, despite the fact that entertainment slightly declined to 16%, it remained more or less stable compared to housing and clothing.
In contrast, in 1958, luxury goods and food constituted 7% and 8%, respectively, while in 2008, they both witnessed a dramatical rise to 17%. In comparison, travel and transport, which accounted for 13%, fell to 6% in 2008 and became the smallest category among other figures.
