Two pie charts compare the reasons of students to study a particular, in a UK university in the year, 1987 and 2007. Overall, the share of degree courses maintained its predominant role in both years. The proportion of students choosing to study close to parental home saw the most noticeable increase, while the reverse was observed, in good sports and social activities. It is also clear that the share of quality teaching rose slightly. Notably, the percentage of quality of resources decreased.
In 1987, suitable degree courses were the most popular reason to study at university, increasing from 35% to 37%. The proportion of students studying close to parental home was recorded the most dramatic increase, from 10% to 22%. Similarly, quality teaching rose from 15% to 18%, while good sports and social activities experienced a slight decline from 19 % to 16%.
The percentage of students choosing universities for the quality of resources decreased from 21% to 17%. Similarly, a thirteen decline was observed in good sports and social activities, constituting a mere 6% by 2007.
