The pie charts depict why some individuals commute to work on a bicycle or in a car.
Overall, it is readily noticeable that a high proportion of people cycle to their workplaces due to health and fitness reasons and with the aim of promoting a healthier environment through lowering pollution. Additionally, comfort and long distance to the place of work, on the other hand, are the major reasons for the use of cars.
Taking a close look at the first pie chart, it is notable that almost two-thirds of the people surveyed ride a bicycle to work on account of health and fitness, and reducing air pollution, making it an environment-friendly option with each of them contributing 30% to the summed up reasons. The next more commonly cited reason is that cycling has comparatively no parking problem, accounting for 15%. Furthermore, the remaining quarter is shared almost equally by its lack of cost and taking shorter journey time at 13% and 12% respectively.
On turning to the reasons for the preference for driving, it can be seen that, by far, the most considered reason is its comfort making up two-fifths of the total. Next in line is commuting distance which is just above half that of comfort. In addition, an equal proportion of these individuals who chose cars over bicycles emphasize their speed and the need to carry their working stuff with them at 14% for each. Lastly, only 11% say that driving is safer than cycling.
