The pie chart compares the proportion of five different types of fuel used in production of electricity in France in 1990 and 2010. Overall, the percentage of usage of nuclear power increased substantially but the percentage of electricity by all other resources declined significantly.
In 1990, coal and natural gas were the main resources, which were used to produce electricity, with 28%. Following them in popularity in electricity generation was oil with 22% and nuclear power with 17%. Hydro power contributed the least percentage. Only 6% of electricity came from hydro power.
By 2010, the percentage distribution in the pie chart had changed considerably, and this graph revealed a more contrasting picture. The percentage of the electricity produced by nuclear power greatly increased from 17% to 67%. By contrast, the percentages of coal and oil decreased noticeably to 13% each, while that of natural gas declined slightly to 4%. Finally, the contribution of hydro power fell, constituting 2%.
