The pie charts compare the proportions of graduates in Australia who were unemployed, employed, and in further education after graduating from secondary school between 1980 and 2000.
Overall, both employment and further education had much higher figures throughout the period, while the minority of students decided not to work after leaving secondary school in Australia.
The half of graduates preferred to study in higher education after secondary school, whereas 40% of Australian students chose to be employed in 1980. However, the reverse was quite true for these percentages in next 10 years. To be specific, employment rate of graduates accounted for 50%, while this proportion for further education stood at 38%. After a decade, the preference for work continued its upward trend, with a figure rising by 5% to 55%. Meanwhile, the percentage of further education decreased to 37%.
In terms of the lowest figures, unemployment rates among Australian graduates are the lowest over the whole period, which contributed to 10% in 1980. This figure increased minimally by 2% to 12% in 1990. Conversely, this category experienced the largest decline from 12% to 8% in 2000.
