The pie charts indicate the percentage of the different types of transport that people used to travel to a university in two years: 2004 and 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the car usage rate was 51%, which was the most used means of transport in 2004. However, this figure decreased significantly to 28%, while others experienced a gradual increase in 2009. Besides, also in 2009, the percentage of people who commuted to university by bus was the highest, and buses overtook cars in terms of the market share of transport users that year.
In 2004, there were 51% people drove cars to university – the most used mode of transport; however, in 2009, this statistic witnessed a considerable fall to 28%, decreasing by 23%. This was probably due to car parking charges which were introduced in 2006. In contrast, the number of people going to university by bus went up from 33% to 46% within five years, taking over the top position from by car. This increase might be a result of a new bus stop in the university in 2008. On the other hand, the ratio of people who rode a bicycle, caught a train, or walked rose slightly from 9%, 3% and 4% to 16%, 4% and 6%, respectively, between 2004 and 2009.
