Overall, the number of undergraduates using cars to go to school experienced a downward trend, while the opposite was true for their counterparts. It is also clear that cars were the most popular vehicles in 2004, but this has been overtaken by buses in 2009.
Regarding the percentage of students travelling to university by car and bus, not only automobiles were the predominant means of transportation in 2004, with the figure being at 51% but they also witnessed a dramatic change after 5 years. In detail, the figure for people using cars to college dropped to 38%, nearly twofold decrease. In contrast, only one-third of students travelled to school by bus, which less than 18% compared to that by car in 2004. This figure increased remarkably to 46% in 2009, becoming the highest rate among five different vehicles.
In terms of remaining categories, the percentage of students who went to school by bicycle saw an upward trend, from 9% in 2004 to 16% in 2009. Walking and train followed a similar pattern, but to a lesser extent. The former and the latter accounted for 4% and 3% in 2004 before increasing to 6% and 4% after 5 years, respectively.
