However, when it comes to romantic comedy, the number of women interested in this genre was about six times higher than that of dude. Another striking point is that the interest in comedy was twice as high as the interest in Westerns for both genders. The least popular genres were thriller and science fiction, with women showing less interest in these compared to men.
Regarding box-office takings, action films were the most sold type, accounting for approximately 49% of the total sales, which was about twice as much as comedy at 24%. The third most popular genre in terms of ticket sales was romantic comedy at 12%, slightly higher than thriller at 10%. The least purchased category was other genres, making up 5% of the total sales.
