Overall, action movies were the most preferable for males and also brought the highest profit, whereas their female counterparts showed preference to romantic comedies. Notably, action movies and romantic comedies accounted for most of the box-office takings, albeit different preferences in watching films.
Looking first at the bar chart, two-fifth of men opted for action movies, as compared to women, at 25. Comedy was the second most favorable genre for both genders. Romantic comedies were six times as popular among women (30%) as among men (5%). Likewise, thrillers, science fiction, and westerns were less popular, attracting each of them around 10% or fewer, with science fiction was on the last place.
In terms of the pie chart, first on the list was action films made up nearly half of total takings. Romantic comedy was not as popular as comedy, as it only accounts for 12% compared to 24%. This was followed by thrillers at 10%, making it twice more popular than other films, with 5%.
