The given charts illustrate the number of cars sold and the proportion of sales for different types of new cars in Austria during April in three different years: 1994, 2004, and 2014.
Overall, the quantity of brand-new cars sold exhibited an increasing trend over the 20-year period. Additionally, the saloon model consistently had the highest proportion of sales, although its dominance decreased over time.
In 1994, the saloon car was the most popular, accounting for 75% of total car sales, with approximately 31,500 new cars sold. However, in the following two decades, the share of saloon car sales experienced a downward trend, decreasing by 10% every ten years. By 2004, saloon cars made up 65% of sales with 31,200 cars sold, and by 2014, their share further declined to 55%, with 28,600 cars sold.
In contrast, the percentage and number of SUVs and other types of cars showed an upward trend. In 1994, the combined share of SUVs and other cars was significantly lower than that of saloon cars, with SUVs at 6% and other cars at 19%, amounting to 7,980 and 2,520 cars sold, respectively. By 2004, both categories had increased in share, with SUVs rising sharply by 8%, and other cars by 2%. In the following decade, the proportion of other cars remained unchanged, but the number of cars sold increased to 10,920. Meanwhile, the share of SUVs continued to rise, surpassing other cars and climbing by 10%, with the number of SUVs sold reaching 12,480, which was five times higher than in the initial year.
