The give pie charts compare the number and proportion of new cars sold in April in 1994,2004, and 2014 in Australia, containing three categories: Saloon, SUV, and others
It is clear that throughout the period, saloon held the largest proportion compared to two other categories combined. Although, the total sales of new cars increased over 20-year period, saloon cars’ sales declined, and the sales of SUV, and others increased stably.
In 1994, saloon cars were the major sales with 75% (31500 units) which is three quarter the total car sales which is only 42000 units. However, the sales of saloon cars gradually decreased form 75% to 65% in 2004, and 55% in 2014.
On the other hand, SUV categories took only 6% (2520 units) of the total sales in 1994. Over 20 years, the sale of SUVs grew steadily to 14% in 2004, and 24% in 2014 with about 12480 units. Whereas the others categories experienced a slightly increase between 1994 and 2004, rising from 19% to 21%.
