The image depicts a three-step process in a home smokery: 1) fresh air enters and flows through a channel into section 2; 2) two lids cover sections, containing logs at the bottom with a pipe emanating smoke upwards; 3) the smoke enters a smoke box above ground level, with food items hanging inside the box for smoking.

The diagram represents the structure of smokery house and how it actually works.

Overall, the process contain 3 main stages, starting from fresh air coming from outside, logs getting burned to produce smoke and the smoke traveling inside a pipe to a room containing various types of meat for smoking.

Initially, air is lead to the underground air system through open lid. Then the fresh air reaches the area where logs are present and provides oxygen for burning of timbers. The lid above the logs stay closed for limited reach of oxygen so smoke can be produced.

In the further process, the smoke will travel through pipe that designed to lead to a storage room. There, smoke rises through the pipe and provides a pleasing flavor and aroma for meat products like fish or beef that is hanging from above for thorought smoking ,after which will be ready for selling.

Task Response

The report effectively covers the main stages of the home smokery process, with a clear overall summary and logical sequencing. The description of air intake, log burning, and smoke transfer to the smoking room is appropriate. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and omissions, such as the mention of 'selling' which is not indicated in the task, and the description of the lids could be more precise. The language is generally clear, but some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'thorought smoking') slightly detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on precise vocabulary and ensure all details align with the diagram without adding unsupported information.

Coherence & Cohesion

The report has a clear overall structure with an introduction, an overview, and a description of the process. However, the flow is sometimes disrupted by awkward phrasing and minor lapses in logical progression. For example, the transition between stages could be smoother, and the final sentence is incomplete. To improve, use clearer linking words (e.g., 'subsequently', 'following this') and ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct stage of the process. Paragraphing is adequate but could be more skillfully managed to enhance readability.

Lexical Resource

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some good choices such as 'underground air system', 'provides oxygen', and 'pleasing flavor and aroma'. However, there are instances of imprecise or informal language (e.g., 'timbers' instead of 'wood', 'thorought' instead of 'thorough'). To achieve a higher score, aim for more precise and varied vocabulary (e.g., 'combustion' instead of 'burning', 'chamber' instead of 'room') and avoid spelling errors. The range is sufficient but not fully flexible or sophisticated.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

The report uses a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are several grammatical errors that affect clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement ('process contain'), missing articles ('smokery house'), incorrect verb forms ('air is lead', 'pipe that designed'), and punctuation issues (missing commas, incomplete sentence at the end). To improve, focus on consistent use of passive voice for process descriptions, correct article usage, and proper sentence completion. A wider range of structures (e.g., relative clauses, conditionals) would also strengthen the response.
