The line chart illustrates the number of parcels delivered by two leading services, FedEx and TNT, from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, the parcel delivery values for both FedEx and TNT rose during the first 20 years. While the quantity of parcels organized by TNT showed a steady increase, FedEx’s figures fluctuated throughout the period.
In 1920, FedEx delivered approximately 15,000 parcels, which peaked at around 25,000 by 1940. However, this figure dramatically halved to about 12,000 in 1950, hitting a low of just over 11,000. After that, it gradually rose to between 17,000 and 19,000 parcels between 1970 and 1980, maintaining stability for the next decade before slightly declining to nearly 18,000 in 2000.
On the other hand, TNT started in 1920 with a parcel count of just over 5,000, which was three times lower than FedEx’s figures. Over the subsequent 50 years, TNT’s delivery numbers gradually increased to over 12,000 by 1960. This number remained relatively stable for two decades, although there were some minor fluctuations. Subsequently, there was a sharp rise to over 22,000 parcels sent, which was double the figure from 1980, culminating in a peak of nearly 25,000 parcels in the final year.
