The chart shows price rates of bananas in four countries between 1994 and 2004.Overall, while prices in Japan fluctuated and increased over the years, those in France also saw variation but decreased at the end. In Germany, meanwhile, the price rate remained almost stable, in contrast to the USA, which rose over the years yet saw almost no change after that. Of particular note, Japan and the USA were the two countries with the most and least expensive bananas, respectively.
As of 1994, bananas cost 1.9 dollars a kilogram in Japan, and this figure then peaked at 2.9 dollars in 1995 before falling sharply to 2 dollars. By 2001, however, the price level had fluctuated and dipped to 1.6 dollars, after which there was a gradual rise to 2.6 dollars at the end, thus becoming the country with the most significant price rate. By contrast, the price of bananas in France was recorded at roughly 1.7 dollars per kilogram in 1994, and this figure remained relatively stable until 1997, after which prices fell sharply over the years and then rebounded to 1.8 dollars by 2004.
Turning to the remaining categories, the price of bananas stood at approximately 1.5 dollars in Germany in 1994. Over the ensuing seven years, the price marked fluctuations, before experiencing a slight decrease to 1.3 dollars in 2003, after which it held steady until the end of the period. As for the USA, bananas cost 0.8 in 1994 before increasing to 1.3 the following year. After a slight dip to 1.0 in 1997, the price recovered to around 1.2 and then remained relatively stable until the end of the period.
