The diagrams illustrate how a small local museum and its surrounding area changed between 1957 and 2007.
Overall, the museum site was significantly modernised over the 50-year period. While the earlier layout was dominated by gardens and trees, by 2007 much of the outdoor space had been replaced with new facilities for visitors, including a car park, café and education centre.
In 1957, the museum was surrounded by extensive gardens with many trees. Inside the building, there was a national history exhibition located in the centre, with a local history room and a museum store room situated nearby. Access to the museum was provided by a curved path leading from the road to the entrance hall.
By 2007, the area had been considerably redeveloped. The garden was reduced in size, and several new rooms were added to the museum, such as a special exhibitions area and an education centre. The former entrance hall was replaced by a reception area, and a café was constructed for visitors. In addition, a car park was built to the south of the museum, with a more direct entrance connecting the building to the road.
