the diagram illustrates the specific step of a modern landfill for the waste from household
Overall, there are three main stages : construction by making a hole into natural rock, use and closure after filling the waste at the maximum capacity.
First stage is the construction process, natural rock is excavated to make a hole and then a layer of clay and a synthetic lining are overlaid on the top of the natural rock. The drainage tank is installed in the clay layer to receive the liquid from drainage pipes, which are placed on top of the synthetic lining. In addition, the waste liquid is trapped in the drainage tank to protect any contaminated waste water into the environment.
The second stage is the use of landfill, the household waste is placed into the hole by trucks until it is full.
Lastly, at which point the closure stage begins. Clay is used to cover the top of the hole, then a pipe is installed to transport the gases from the drainage pipe.
