The image depicts the process of generating electricity using geothermal energy.
Producing electricity is a 5-step process. Generally speaking, we can see that cold water is turned into steam which activates a generator that produces electricity. The geothermal energy is used early in the process to change the temperature of the water.
At the beginning of the process, cold water is pumped over 4 and a half kilometers underground through a pipe labeled the injection well. There, the water then comes into contact with hot rocks, inside what is named the geothermal zone. In this zone, the water is heated, and is taken to the production well, another pipe which returns the heated water to the surface.
Once on the surface, the hot water is sent to a condenser, the steam from which is fed into a turbine. This steam spins the turbine, which in turn powers a generator that produces electricity. Finally, this electricity is sent into pylons for use in the power grid.
