The diagram illustrates how to produce compost from organic waste. First, prepare a plastic container with a volume of one cubic meter. Make six parallel holes in the container to allow air to circulate through them. Secondly, place organic waste, such as food scraps, in the plastic container to a depth of fifteen centimeters. On top of the food scraps, add an equal depth of grass, which can be sourced from various places. Repeat this layering once more.
Next, distribute nitrogen-rich material on the very top layer of the grass and then pour hot water over it. It is important that the water is hot. After this, close the lid of the container. The food waste and grass will decompose together thanks to the heat from the hot water. Finally, after six months, the compost will be ready to use. You may find some worms from natural leaf decomposition among the food waste, which can be beneficial. This compost can be used for various purposes, such as enriching your garden soil.
Food waste is highly organic and contributes positively to the ecosystem. As the population increases, the amount of food waste generated also rises, which can lead to environmental pollution affecting the Earth’s ecosystems. However, we can reduce the amount of food waste by creating compost as shown in the diagram.
Using food waste for composting offers numerous benefits for plants, in addition to mitigating pollution. For instance, there is no need to purchase expensive soil from the market. Food waste compost is rich in nutrients, which are extremely beneficial for plants. Many farmers utilize food compost as an excellent fertilizer for their crops. This is one of the best ways to keep our environment clean while promoting healthy plant growth.
