The two maps demonstrate the developments made to Shakefield for about 30 years, from 1995 until 2025.
Overall, the area has shifted from a predominantly fishing-based town to a more urbanized and modernized town with various amenities. Additionally, the citizens’ residency has expanded remarkably along with different facilities being established to improve local’s quality of life.
Regarding the town’s overall structure in 1995, the town was separated by one main road running from the Northern side of the town to the sea. Moreover, most of the local accommodations were located on the western side of this main road, with the main living area being accessible by an additional road and the sports houses located directly to the southern direction.Additionally, on the eastern side of this main roadway, two hotels were observed with a coffee shop available in the opposite direction. Lastly, a fish market at the end of the main highway along with a designated harbour for morning fish boats in the sea were spotted.
Concerning Shakefield’s layout in the present time, most of the town’s greenery has been removed. In the North-East region of the town, the town’s farm land zone has now been converted for golfing and tennis infrastructures. Simultaneously, where the public park once was, multiple holiday homes have been built on top and a car park was added along on the road on the eastern side of Shakefield. Additionally, it can also be seen that housing and residents accommodations have significantly expanded with the main living areas having more houses built as well as the two previous hotels being upgraded to take in more people. Not only so, the fish market was eliminated to make room for newly found apartments while the harbour was completely removed as morning fish boats changed to yachts. Lastly, despite all the changes made to the other sectors, the coffee shop remained the same in the documented time.
