The maps illustrate the floor plan of a central library 20 years ago and today.
Overall, over the period, the public library witnessed some dramatic changes from the old library to a new modern one. The changes focused on modernization including a new computer room, cafe, lecture room and storytelling events area.
Looking at the diagram in more detail, on the left side of the entrance the reading room was replaced by a computer room. On the right hand side of the entrance, the enquiry desk was converted into a new cafe. In addition, the tables and chairs were completely removed. Next to the enquiry desk, the adult non-fiction books area was replaced by an adult fiction books area, information desk and self-service machines.
Regarding the middle area on the left of the library, adult fiction books area was cleared and replaced by children’s fiction books area. In the north-west of the library the room which contained CDs, videos, computer games was expanded and replaced with children’s fiction books and storytelling events areas. Finally, in the north-east of the library, the room with children’s books was converted into the lecture room.
