Overall, the campus is set to undergo significant redevelopment, the most important of which will be the expansion of the road network and the construction of new academic buildings on former green spaces. At present, the campus is divided into three main sections by a central road and a vertical walkway. In the northern area, a car park is located in the northeast corner, while the northwest section is primarily covered by trees. To the southwest, a lab is situated in the northwest, while the Biochemistry building stands to its east, with several trees positioned in between them. This area is separated from the southeast section by the walkway. Within the southeast area, the Genetics building and another lab are found in the northwest and northeast corners respectively. Finally, a large Biotech building occupies the southern part of this section, positioned directly south of the Genetics and lab facilities.
In the proposed plan, the Biomedical Campus will be significantly transformed. The original T-shaped roads will be demolished and replaced by a new road running along the boundary of the site. In the northern area, several trees will be cleared to make way for two new buildings, namely ‘Genetics 1’ and ‘Bio-imaging’. To the southwest, the original Biochemistry building will be relocated and repurposed to become a diagonal structure. Adjacent to this, a new staff car park will be built in the south-west corner of the campus. Finally, in the south-east area, the Genetics building will be reconstructed into ‘Genetics 2’, while the Biotech building will be built to become larger on its original site.
