The Process of Making Sports Shoes
The flow chart illustrates the production cycle of sports shoes, from raw materials to retail distribution. The entire process takes approximately 18 months to complete.
Overall, it is a multi-stage operation that involves sourcing, manual manufacturing, and large-scale logistics. All components are eventually delivered to a production factory before being shipped to stores.
To begin with, raw materials like leather from tanneries and fabric from mills are collected. Simultaneously, a design is prepared on a computer to guide the process. Following the design, workers manually cut the materials to give them the required shape. Once the pieces are ready, the upper parts of the shoes are sewn together by workers. Subsequently, the completed uppers are attached to rubber soles using an adhesive (glue).
In the final stage, ready shoes are packed into boxes, each holding 12 pairs. These boxes are then loaded into large containers with a capacity of 5,500 pairs and delivered to a warehouse. Finally, the shoes are transported via cargo shipping to various shops for sale.
